Bishop Zafra passes away

TAGBILARAN, August 11 -- Bishop Felix Z. Zafra, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Tagbilaran passed away last August 4.  He was 82.

Bishop Zafra, who served as the fourth Bishop of Tagbilaran, was born on January 14, 1920 in Clarin, Bohol.  He was ordained to the priesthood on March 4, 1944 at the Metropolitcan Cathedral of Cebu. 

In the mid-1940s, he served the Archdiocese of Cebu as assistant parish priest in the parishes of El Pardo and Carcar in Cebu City.  In the Diocese of Tagbilaran, he had been appointed Diocesan CCD Director, parish priest of St. Joseph's Cathedral in Tagbilaran City and in the town on Loon, Bohol, and vice-rector and spiritual director of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Seminary in Tagbilaran City.

He was ordained Bishop on October 22, 1967 and appointed as the first Bishop of Dipolog.  On December 2, 1986, he was appointed as the fourth Bishop of Tagbilaran.

The Requiem Mass for Bishop Zafra was celebrated last August 9, followed by interment at the St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral in Tagbilaran City.
