Laiko leads 'Laity Week' celebration Sept. 22-28 The Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas (Council of the Laity of the Philippines) will spearhead this year's celebration of Laity Week, scheduled on September 22 to 28,
and centered on the theme "Pamilyang Pilipino: Tagapagpahayag ng Mabuting Balita ng Bagong Milenyo". The theme of the celebration focuses on the family and serves as a fitting preparation for
the forthcoming Fourth World Meeting of Families in January next year.The week-long festivities will be launched with an opening Mass to be held at 9 a.m. at the Manila Cathedral on
September 22 under the auspices of the Council of the Laity of Manila (CLM). The Mass will be presided by Msgr. Nestor Cerbo, rector of the Manila Cathedral, while Msgr. Josefino Ramirez, spiritual
director of the CLM, will deliver the homily. The closing rites will be held on September 26 with a Mass presided by Msgr. Ramirez at the Binondo Cathedral at 6 p.m. Laity Week
highlights the critical role of the laity in the life of the local Catholic Church. It honors San Lorenzo Ruiz and Blessed Pedro Calungsod, the patron saints of the Catholic laity of the Philippines.
Sponsoring institutions include the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (BCP), Episcopal Commission on Lay Apostolate, Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas, Archdiocesan Councils of the Laity, national
lay organizations, transparochial communities, parish councils of the laity and parish pastoral councils. |
